A Cherry Cola Kissed Ham: Slow Cooked Comfort & Joy

Published: Apr 21, 2025 · Modified: Apr 30, 2025 by Emilia Hayes · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Oh, the scent of a slow-cooked ham filling the kitchen… it instantly transports me back to childhood holidays, bustling with family and laughter. There’s something so inherently comforting about a beautifully glazed ham, isn’t there? It feels like a hug on a plate. And this isn’t just any ham recipe, friends. This is a cherry cola ham recipe that’s surprisingly simple, yet delivers a depth of flavor that will have everyone asking for seconds. I stumbled upon a variation of this a few years ago, and after a little tweaking (and a lot of taste-testing!), I’ve landed on a version that I’m so excited to share with you.

I think sometimes we get intimidated by big cuts of meat, thinking they require hours of fussing and complicated techniques. But honestly, this cherry cola ham recipe is the opposite. It’s a “set it and forget it” kind of dish, perfect for a weekend gathering or a special occasion when you want to spend more time with loved ones and less time in the kitchen. The cherry cola adds a subtle sweetness and a beautiful glaze, while the mustard and horseradish provide a lovely counterpoint, keeping things balanced and interesting. It’s a little unexpected, but trust me – it works! I love how the cola tenderizes the ham as it slow cooks, making it incredibly juicy and flavorful.

I’ve always believed that cooking is an act of care. It’s about taking the time to nourish those we love, and creating memories around the table. And this cherry cola ham recipe is a perfect example of that. It’s a way to show someone you care, without spending all day slaving over the stove. Plus, the leftovers are amazing – perfect for sandwiches, omelets, or even a hearty ham salad.

I’ve been experimenting with different cola flavors, and cherry cola really shines here. It adds a brightness that complements the savory ham beautifully. Don’t be afraid to play around with it though! If you prefer a classic cola flavor, that will work just as well. The key is to find a cola you enjoy, as its flavor will definitely come through. I also love adding a few fresh sage leaves as a garnish – they add a lovely aroma and a touch of elegance.

I recently visited a local farm here in Portland, and the aroma of fresh herbs reminded me how important it is to use quality ingredients. It really does make a difference! When you’re choosing your ham, look for a boneless ham that’s already fully cooked. This recipe is all about enhancing the flavor, not about cooking the ham from scratch. And remember, a little patience goes a long way. The slow cooking process is what makes this cherry cola ham recipe so special.
