Instructions

  1. Briefly rinse the rice to remove any impurities, keeping most of the starch.
  2. Combine rice and chosen liquid in a pot (or Instant Pot / rice cooker) using your preferred rice-to-liquid ratio.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Cook until the grains break down and the porridge reaches your preferred thickness (about 25–30 minutes on the stove).
  5. Add protein or vegetables once the porridge has thickened, cooking until done.
