Ingredients
Scale
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Oil for frying (vegetable or canola work best)
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
In a separate bowl, combine the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
Slowly add the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
In a deep skillet or pot, heat oil until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Using a spoon or small cookie scoop, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil.
Fry each batch for 2-3 minutes, flipping halfway through to ensure even browning.
Remove the bites with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve immediately.
Notes
Don’t overcrowd the pan – fry in small batches for best results.
Adjust the amount of powdered sugar to your liking.
For a fun twist, add a pinch of cinnamon to the batter.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, but they’re best enjoyed fresh!
